HOWLING GOOD SPOTS TO HAVE YOUR HALLOWEEN BASH

In A Barn

A barn with a loft makes the excellent spot for your Halloween Party. Try taking a drive in the country and when you’ve located what you consider to be the perfect place for your shindig, stop and ask the owner for permission to use the wonderful barn. Most will allow you to use a vacated barn for free as long as you clean up after the party. If not, beg.

Barns with lofts work best. Also, try to find a barn that is surrounded with trees. You can hang a lot of things from trees, such as Halloween lanterns, twinkling orange or white lights, ghosts, bats and snakes. Yikes! Oh wait – they’re fake.

The loft in the barn is an excellent spot to setup a Fortune Teller’s domain. People love crystal balls. You can use a large crystal paperweight to achieve the crystal ball effect, or an inverted cut-glass bowl. Round fish bowls can also be converted nicely by filling them with clear marbles, then inverting the bowl on the table. Cover the base with a black velvet cloth before flipping. Black’s the color of the night; it’s enchanting, mysterious, scary and eludes the unknown. Ask your Fortune Teller to dress gypsy-style and bring her Translyvanian accent to the party with her.

Ask one guest at your party to dress as Frankenstein. As your guests arrive, station Frank in the loft window of the barn. That’s a guaranteed thriller! Be sure and have Frank extend his arms and moan a lot! If it’s dark at the top of the loft, or if the moon isn’t full, you may need to make use of a small flashlight. Just don’t shine it into Frank’s eyes, especially when he’s prancing close to the ledge of the loft window. His face will revert from green to white in a flash!

Bales of hay can be strewn around the floor of the loft and the lower base of the barn. Be sure to decorate with the hay before putting out your goodies or they’ll be dusted with bits of the hay. However, gummy worms and bugs are acceptable to use as food decorations.
