BURIED TREASURE Rhonda urged Rod to dig faster into the hard earth. "Hurry! I want to see the treasure! I wonder if there's really a million dollars worth of gold buried inside?" Rod was sweating, the heat intense. Rhonda looked as cool as a cucumber, as always. Why did he get stuck with the digging? After all, he had been the one responsible for discovering the treasure. "Dig faster!" she ordered and at that, Rod stopped and tossed down his shovel in front of her feet, barely missing them. Treasure or not, he was sick of Rhonda - her and her gluttony for money. "You dig if you want it so bad," he told her, his patience spended. For the first time, he was seeing Rhonda as she really was; a gold digger in more ways than one.
"Fine! I'll dig then," she whipped out, jerking up the shovel and ramming it into the hard earth. Rod sat to one side, watching her intently. How could he have been fooled all this time by her false charms? She was beautiful, but there was something very ugly beneath her cool skin....something ruthless....something that he supposed not even all the treasure in the world would satisfy. Rhonda hit the top of the chest, and Rod watched her as she fell to her knees, digging at the earth with her manicured hands, ripping her fake nails as she frantically dug. "Help me, you jerk!" she demanded, Rod standing and crossing his arms, lazily watching her. At this point, he didn't care if the chest held all the tea in China - let her have it. The sooner she was out of his life, the better. The only thing Rod was kicking himself in the pants for was not realizing how Rhonda really was, before now. Fifteen minutes later, she had clawed her way to the belly of the chest, hauling it with great effort onto the flat ground. When it wouldn't open, she broke into tears, squalling like a young child who was accustomed to getting her way. Yet Rod did not intervene, even as she herald out vain refrains at him - he stood his ground. Finally, the chest opened, Rhonda ecstatic. But the chest was empty...as empty of treasure as Rhonda's heart was of love.....
"Yes, extremely unfortunate for Rhonda that Rod came to his senses..."
