A Tenting We Will Go - page 3

Be aware that tents are a bit like automobiles; there are several different models. They come in all shapes,colors and sizes. They are erected in many different ways. Some take a long time to set up; some can be set up in about five minutes. Many come with added features, clever pockets for storage, 't-tops' for stargazing, even dividers for added privacy.

If you purchase a tent and discover it's not all it was promised to be, then by all means, return it to your point of purchase! If your tent is uncomfortable, your adventure will be miserable.

Before setting up your tent, decide where your campfire will be pitched. Will the smoke blow into your tent? Also check the direction of the morning sun. Will the sun be pelting down on your tent come morning? Or have you stationed it so that you're shielded from the hot rays?

You will also need to decide which angle you'll want your 'exit' to face. Once your tent is erected, it's just about impossible to turn it around unless it's a small tent.

I would highly recommend placing thick sheathing under your tent. It makes clean-up easier and adds to the strength of the bottom of your tent floor - which can be especially important when camping on raw land. It also protects the bottom of your tent from dirt, mud and loose debris.
