Werewolf Short Story - Cane WalkerOnce upon a time there was a young man obsessed with canes. During the holidays, he bought out all the candy canes in town. But he didn't stop there - no he didn't. He bartered furiously with the local medicine shoppe, buying out all the canes, leaving none in stock for those in need.
But he didn't stop there. He marched over to the mercantile and snapped up all the umbrellas equipped with hooked handles and anything else that slightly resembled a cane. One would have thought that he would have stopped there - but oh no. The man hastened to the local blacksmith shoppe, intent on buying up any iron object that slightly resembled a cane. As he entered, he found the shoppe hot and undesirable - but nothing could stop his intent. An older woman was at the shoppe conversing with the blacksmith, and when the man would have shoved her aside to talk with the blacksmith, he noticed the most lovely silver cane that he'd ever seen resting in the woman's frail hands. "Madam, how much would you take for that old cane?" the young man asked, trying to downplay the beauty of the silver cane. The old woman winced her lips together, then informed tersely, "Why nothing young man! This cane was a gift from my great grandfather and to me, it is priceless." "Priceless? Or, worthless?" the man argued, quirking the old woman's anger. "If the cane holds no price, it therefore holds no value." To which, the old woman unexpectedly began beating the young man with her beautiful silver cane. And being a werewolf, the young man vanished quite swiftly. Moral of the Werewolf Story: Value is in the eye of the beholder.
