Werewolf Short Story - Honey, I'm Home!

"Honey, I'm home!" Colt eased out as he entered the small abode.  They never had been rich in money, but he and Nancy had always been rich in love.

Hum, this was odd, Colt pondered, wondering why Nancy wasn't responding.  Generally, she was at the door, waiting for him.  Concerned, he began to search the small house and found her in the bedroom packing a battered suitcase.

"Nancy?  What's this?" Colt asked.  Then , "Is everything okay with your mom?"

Nancy didn't pause from her packing and without looking at him, she said, "Colt, it's over.  This relationship has ended, and that's that-"

"Nancy!  What do you mean it's over?"

Nancy paused, stood soldier straight, looked Colt in the eyes and informed, "I can't live with you anymore.  You-you've changed."

"Nonsense," Colt eased out, coming to her, and Nancy backed away into the wall.

"Get away from me, Colt!" she warned, reaching for a gun that had been concealed in her blue moo moo.  Colt lifted his brows an inch when she went on to inform, "It's loaded.  With a silver bullet."

"Geese, Nancy.  I never thought that there would be anything that could separate us.  I haven't changed that much-"

"Colt, you're a fricken werewolf!  How can I deal with that?  It's over, finally over - don't you get it?"

Colt decided that Nancy was right, there was nothing that could be done - however, things could be changed.  He loved her.  He wasn't going to ever let her go and in his heart of hearts, he knew that she loved him too.  He could see it in her little moon-shaped eyes - the tears that had pooled there when she spoke of going away.

"Fine.  I concede," he eased out, feigning disappointment and defeat.  "I'll drive you to the airport and give you a howling send-off!," he teased, bringing a wan smile to Nancy's trembling lips.

She lowered the gun as well as her head and mumbled, "'K."

The drive under the full moon was quite lovely as was the woodsy run that Nancy took with Colt after his love bite, for he had been true to his word, giving her something to howl about....
