The Legend of Pumpkin Carving - How Pumpkin Carving Carved Its Way Into the AmericasThe Celtic roots of Halloween birthed
visions of carved pumpkins beckoning All Hallows Eve. According
to legend of pumpkin carving, beginning sundown on October
31st through November 1st marked a thinning of the veil separating
earth from the realm of the dead. As a welcoming light, chunks of coal were placed into carved pumpkins to light the way for loved ones, the light cozy and inviting. The light supposedly also served to lock out the unwelcome evil spirits. During All Hallows Eve, carved-out pumpkins, turnips, gourds and melons were scattered outdoors, some placed in windows, some on porches. Eventually, the coal was replaced with the more modern candle, but both served as the dividing light. With the Europeans migration, the discovery of a larger pumpkin brought to life a new tradition in the Americas. Today, pumpkin carving has become an art with the pumpkin artist making use of more tools than the simple pumpkin cutter. But one may still find lighted pumpkins anchored in houses perched on city streets and county lanes. The legend of pumpkin carving is a tradition that will never die. Dances With Wolfbane - If you will look closely within these shrouded walls, you will see a castle knitted into a cove. Below the castle lies no gate, lies no walls, lies no clinging ivy - but a thatch of wolfbane, a wilting thatch of wolfbane. And within the castle walls resides Shernoff, man about the town by day, werewolf by night... continue I Want to Eat a Sheep - Little Sheep stood contentedly munching on the tender green grass of the valley floor as the sun sank in the western sky. Night would soon capture the day, but at least a full moon hung high overhead. Sheep liked full moons for they were bright and helped in keeping the wild wolves at bay. continue Shadow Rider - The night was young. The yellow sun had vacated the cloudless sky a short hour ago leaving behind a shroud of intense heat. continue Midnight, Twilight, Daylight - Midnight. Joe was preparing for his transformation as he glimpsed a full yellow moon flying high overhead through his open penthouse window. He was three flights up, feeling closer to the moon than to the street below, but the jump from the window would be a piece of cake once the transformation occurred. continue There Wolf! -There was something extremely odd about Dafney's date. He had an awful lot of hair, his upper lip kept quavering like a horse in heat, and he smelled a bit....wild, as if he'd been sleeping outdoors with a pack of wolves. continue
